During the following Imaging class, Jai Sir and I had a few heated debates regarding my zine concept and other ideas regarding the thought process behind the creation of my concept. He wanted me to reiterate my zine in a more positive format to show what would have happened if the villain had been given the necessary attention, treatment and help in time and what if society was the hero instead of it playing a role in the creation of a villain.
I at first did not agree with his concept and explained to him from my side as to why I believed that the defusing of the villain/ the society being the hero was not a good idea.
I argued that it was an ideal one-off scenario and it is a rare case in today’s time where society actually helps grow an individual in a holistic manner.
I also argued that with the increase and growth in technology and the rates at which depression and anxiety are increasing in today’s youth, there is a lot of ambiguity and there is a huge problem of an “identity crisis” and that of “fitting into” a character that is socially acceptable.
I then cited examples of the creation of Hitler due to the unrest in Germany post-1929 world economic crisis and the book “The Subtle Art of not giving a fuck”.
He then countered my argument by telling me to read the books “The Hitchhikers Guide To The Galaxy”, “Every tool is a Hammer” and “The Prince” mentioned that it is one that removes the ambiguity and identity crisis that is prevalent in society and the self-help books I mentioned are actually collages of many ideas that sound great put together in the form of lessons and are not in any way thought-provoking and helping in questioning things and creation of world-changing ideas.
So I went on reiterated my concept and purchased the book started reading it. The book was hard to grasp as it was written in a story/narrative style and is a fictional one. Unlike anything, I’ve read before. I sure will take time with this really long book but will complete it and understand its implications.
