Objects as History Week 1

In the following Objects as History Class, we started by learning about the Different Periods of the Stone Age: The Paleolithic Age (30,000-10,000 BC), The Mesolithic Age (10,000-8,000 BC) and The Neolithic Age (8,000-3,000 BC).

The Neolithic Revolution was unlike any other revolution and occurred over 1000 years and is a shift from the Mesolithic Age to the beginning of the Neolithic Age (roughly around 10000BC). This was caused due to the end of the Ice Age which led to global restructure and resulted in the birth of fertile valleys in the middle east in places such as modern-day Syria and China. This climate change marked the shift from hunting and gathering to the creation of settlements and the beginning of the Agricultural Age. This led to the domestication of Animals, Building of Irrigation Channels, Division of Labour, Property Ownership i.e The birth of Civilizations.

We were told some notable facts about places such as

Jericho, which is believed to be one of the oldest inhabited cities in the world and the city with the oldest known protective wall in the world. It was thought to have the oldest stone tower in the world as well, but excavations at Tell Qaramel in Syria have discovered even older stone towers

The Epic of Gilgamesh, an epic poem from Ancient Mesopotamia as the earliest surviving great work of literature and the second oldest religious text.
