Work Assigned: In the following class we were to present our videos to the entire class on the projector and were going to face a peer review along with a review from our faculty member Jai Sir.
Process: During this class I was pretty confident as I had completed some of my final edits from the previous day itself. With the help of a senior I realigned my video imagery to fit the screen correctly which then later caused me a big blunder. I also had exported my video before several times to get the correct file size.
Critical Reflections: During the peer review I was very confident that my video had good quality sound and visuals. I was infact, very happy with my work at first but then after my video was displayed on the screen I realized that it wasn’t as great as I thought it was in my mind. I had goofed up majorly on one picture edit which then destroyed my entire narrative.
A key element that tied up my entire video together was not displayed as I had resized my image sizes the day earlier. I felt like burying my face in my hands after realizing this mistake. It cost me a lot on my grades and it made a big blunder as it left both my faculty and my peers with a lot of ambiguity about my narrative.
The story simply was not visually correct. I realized then, that in design the visuals are not worth anything unless and until the matter is correctly conveyed. By making this error I then also realized that I need to now proofread and recheck every work that I make and that I need to hold myself accountable for any errors that I make along the way. I also need to review my work with my peers more often before the presentation to then correct such errors earlier on in process. Ah I wish I could’ve been more careful and observant with my work and I should have rechecked and marked out all the key elements in my story.
My key learning from this was to be more observant, accountable and most importantly to not leave anything to assumptions. My work should not be based on assumptions that I make about my audience’s understanding of it. It should rather be perfectly crisp and clear and next time I shall work to leave no stone unturned to achieve a great design project work.
