Work Assigned: In the following Integrative Studio class, we were assigned to started breaking down the element further and make a mind map of a part of the element.
Process: In this studio class I finally decided that I would like to narrow down my stream preference to Strategic Design and Management. I then further broke down the element “design thinking and strategy” into its parts and chose the part “Innovation strategies” to work with. Under innovation strategy I had listed down the elements of Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence Strategy, Internet of Things Strategy and Augmented Reality Strategies.
Critical Reflections: Although the selection process of my stream was tough earlier I found a way to sort of combine the elements that i wanted to explore of other streams through the lens of strategic design and management. I asked myself this question that if Consultancy comes under SDM, then why can’t I apply Design Thinking and strategy into the innovate technologies that I was so keenly wanted to explore? I therefore listed the above mentioned elements under innovation strategy as I believe that there is scope for design consultancy in these fields and they are not governed by a singular domain (say Iot isn’t only under product design or Augmented Reality isn’t only under Communication Design) I had realized this while I was reading a book by Harvard Business Review called “AI, Analytics, and the New Machine Age”and It had an entire chapter called “Why Every Organisation needs an Augmented Reality Strategy” this was also mentioned on it’s cover page and this is what made me realize that I did not have to be an expert in the making process of those particular elements mentioned above i.e AI,IoT, AR but I could be an expert in being able to deploy it correctly depending on the need of the hour i.e Strategizing it skillfully to meet organisational and consumer needs. I then realised that what I was looking for came all, under the domain of Strategic Design and Management and therefore I narrowed down my choice to this particular stream and having keen interest in the innovation aspect of design, I decided then to further narrow down my element to Innovation Strategies.
